PFC Donald F Arntz
February 12, 1927 – Sept 14, 2006
Sioux Falls - Donald F. Arntz, 79, passed away peacefully of natural causes at his home on Thursday, Sept. 14, 2006.
Donald was born Feb. 12, 1927, in Aberdeen, S.D., to Gerhardt and Frances (Gross) Arntz.
He served in the Army in 1950 as a Private First Class during the Korean Conflict. Donald then became a carpenter.
He was united in marriage to Helen Schmidt in 1950. They resided in Sioux Falls.
Donald was a life-long member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. He was the first president and last surviving charter member of the PVA, member of the DAV and Knights of Columbus. He was an avid Yankee and Green Bay Packer fan.
His family will remember him as a wonderful husband, great role model and a man with strong family values. Donald is survived by his loving and dedicated wife, Helen; four children, Cindy (Curt) Watson, Deborah (Alick) Yesda, Teri (Randy) Royer and Doug (Crystal) Arntz; nine grandchildren, Chad (Melanie) Watson, Scott (Christina) Watson, Trisha (Travis) Kaffar, Jennifer Bray, Andrea, Erica and Ryan Royer, Josh and Jordan Arntz; six great-grandchildren, Chase, Gage, Kade, Cecelia Watson, Hayley and Hannah Bray; and one brother, Gary (Loretta) Arntz.
He was preceded in death by eight brothers, five sisters and one granddaughter, Jamie Marie Arntz.
Visitation will be Sunday the Sept. 17, 4 p.m., at Barnett-Lewis Funeral Home with a Scripture Vigil at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be Monday the Sept. 18, 10:30 a.m., at St. Mary's Church, with burial at St. Michael's Cemetery with military honors provided by the American Legion Post 15.
