Jason Lyle Boehrns
December 20, 1976 - May 8, 2021

Jason Lyle Boehrns was born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, to Lyle and Anna Boehrns on December 20, 1976. After graduating from O’Gorman High School, Jason attended culinary art school, and then went on to earn a degree as a Database Administrator. This led him on a very successful career path where he served at both IBM and PPD Laboratories.

Nothing made Jason more proud than his four daughters: Madeline, Elizabeth, Lydia, and Caroline, and nothing brought Jason more joy than embarrassing them in public. It was not a trip to the store without Jason using an old-man voice to randomly and loudly call out statements, eliciting pleas through their giggles from the girls, “Dad! Stop it!” Or, picking up the girls from school and waiting until the very moment they opened the van door to blast music, immediately drawing unwanted attention to them.

Jason knew how to make his daughters and family laugh whether it was the annual shooting of the tree’s star topper with the cork of a champagne bottle (which he missed every time), picking up items with what the girls describe as his monkey toes, or dancing along with the dancing Jesus on the dashboard of his van. Many a ride was spent jamming with his girls to the most eclectic playlist one could have: Jonathan Bree, Lana Del Rey, Mountain Goats, Cypress Hill, Gorillaz, 311, the Pixies, and Beck. No matter how the girls tried, they could not convince their dad that Taylor Swift deserved a spot on the playlist.

Jason loved his quality time with his girls and they will forever have the fondest memories of times spent together in the mountains of North Carolina, at the ocean in Myrtle Beach, and cruising along in the van while enjoying ice cream from Sunni Skies. An afternoon of antiquing with his girls, and then coming home to make them a delicious meal or stopping at the local taco truck is how Jason would describe the perfect day. He also loved his time with his girlfriend, Crystal, and her son, Aiden, who added great joy to the lives of Jason and his daughters. When Jason wasn’t with his family or working, he enjoyed taking time to create beautiful furniture and art as he was quite the talented woodworker. Jason was also a kid at heart and entertained himself with playing video games, watching Star Wars movies, and dreaming about ways he could turn the family van into a lowrider, much to the girls’ head shaking. He was also known to take just a few (insert sarcasm) selfies as he was mighty proud of the beautiful beard he’d grown. His family agrees, he was quite the handsome man with or without his pink and purple mohawk.

God gave Jason the longest arms and it was because He knew Jason would use them to wrap his love around all four girls at once. The girls will tell you their dad gave the absolute best hugs; there was nothing warmer and more comforting to Maddie, Ellie, Lydia, and Caroline than a hug from their dad. Jason’s arms continue to be around his girls, protecting them as he envelopes them in his love, always.

Jason’s spirit journeyed to heaven on Saturday, May 8, 2021, when his heart would not continue to beat. He courageously battled cancer and enrolled in medical studies to not only help himself in the fight, but also help others. Because of Jason’s selfless gift of his corneas, two people will be given the gift of sight. Jason’s family remains grateful for his medical team and the EMTs who worked tirelessly to provide him excellent care.

Forever grateful for having shared in his life are his parents, Lyle and Anna Boehrns; his four daughters, Madeline, Elizabeth, Lydia, and Caroline; his loving girlfriend, Crystal Munck and her son, Aiden; his sisters: Lynn (Zane) Gillette, Brenda Retterath, Julie McGraw, and Shelley (Jeff) Hart; his brother, Jeremy Boehrns; several nieces and nephews, and a host of friends, neighbors and colleagues.

A Celebration of Life, open house style, will be held on Saturday, May 15, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Jason’s home, 108 Ulverston Drive, Holly Springs, NC. The family invites you to wear green, Jason’s favorite color. A Celebration of Life will also be held in Sioux Falls at a later date. Thank you for your love and care for Jason’s family.

A service of Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Raleigh.
