Donn Lee Skillingstad
October 14, 1946 - March 28, 2021
Donn Lee Skillingstad, age 74, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home Sunday, March 28, 2021, under the care of Avera Hospice in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Services will be held at 1:00 pm Friday, April 2 at Miller Funeral Home Downtown. The family will be present from 11am until 1pm to greet family and friends. Masks are required at the request of the family.
Donn was born October 14, 1946 to Robert and Lorraine Skillingstad in Windom, MN. He was baptized and confirmed at the American Lutheran Church in Windom. He graduated from Windom High School and attended Mankato State University. He served 3 years in the Minnesota Army National Guard. Donn worked at Kmart for several years. He then worked for Kar Part 30+ years where he retired due to his declining health.
On January 23, 1971 Donn was united in marriage to Bonnie LeRoss in Sioux Falls. They had two children, their son Todd and daughter Kristi. He loved unconditionally and didn’t cast judgment on his loved ones. Donn cared for his parents deeply and would take weekly trips to help care for them in their later years. Family regarded Donn as quiet, but proud; strong willed, but incredibly caring.
Donn loved music. He was known to play his music, Frank Sinatra being his favorite. In his early years Donn loved playing tennis. He also liked playing cards and golfing.
Grateful for having shared his life are wife of 50 years Bonnie; his son Todd Skillingstad; grandchildren Tobin and Jaden all of Denver, CO; his daughter Kristi (Jeff) Skillingstad-Westaby; grandchildren Jamison and Ella of Sioux Falls, SD; his brothers Jon (Janan) Skillingstad of Faribault, MN; mother in law Lois LeRoss of Sioux Falls, SD; sister in law Nina (Todd) Hoffman of Sioux Falls, SD; brother in laws Nyler (Sheila) LeRoss Jr of Kasota, MN, Jeff (Karen) LeRoss Cottage Grove, MN, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Donn is preceded in death by his parents Robert "Bob" and Lorraine "Larry" Skillingstad and his father-in-law Nyler LeRoss. He will be dearly missed by his loving family and friends.
