Dana Palmer
Dana Palmer died in his sleep at home on 12-21-2020 at the age of 60 years, after a week of hospice care for kidney failure related to diabetes. He was born to Bruce & Sylvia Palmer on 7-9-1960. Dana was united in marriage with Susan N. Hansen on 7-31-2017. They attended the Hilltop United Methodist Church together, and developed many lasting friendships there. He also belonged to a close-knit neighborhood at Johnson Estates in Sioux Falls, SD. Prior to his death, Dana was the loving, primary care-giver of both his dying parents, Bruce in 2012 and Sylvia, in March of 2020.
Harrisburg SD was home, but Dana spent many summers at Uncle Leroy's & Aunt Lucille (Palmer) Palmquist's farm near Canova, SD, playing with cousins, Linda Joy, Roland, Melanie, Scott, Crystal & Adam Palmquist. He credits his Uncle LeRoy with buying him his very first motorcycle, for work well done on the Palmquist farm. From uncles, cousins and his older brother, Gene, Dana learned skills that allowed him to repair or build just about anything. After graduating from Harrisburg High, Dana moved to Phoenix AZ where he spent 7 years learning more valuable skills. He returned to Sioux Falls in '87 and lived in Johnson Estates where he was self-employed. Dana loved to build and improve things, so he made much- needed repairs to neighbors' mobile homes (plumbing, electrical, structural, etc.), often for no pay.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Susan N. (Hansen) Palmer, mother-in-law, Hazel (Wertz) Hansen, his 'unofficial' sons, John S. Galt Hansen & Nathan T. A. Hansen Genetzky, his siblings & their families: Gene & Jeannie Palmer, Jessica, Tyler & son Milo Bowden of Madison WI, Dan Langdon; Star (Palmer) & Bob Herion, Angela Standing & her 3 sons- Daxton, Griffith & Jager of Sioux Falls SD; Lisa (Palmer) White & children: Brittney (White) & Mike Fletcher, their children, Myaa & Braxtonn of Sioux Falls, Paris (White) & Kyle Heyer of Larchwood IA, LeVan White, II; and Dana's younger brother, Jason Palmer of Sioux Falls.
Close, extended-family members mourning his loss include Aunt Lucille (Palmer-Palmquist) & Uncle Jack Mohn of Sun City AZ and her children, Linda Joy & John Vanhove of Sioux Falls, Roland & Nancy Palmquist and Adam & Melissa Palmquist of Winfred SD, Melanie & Rick Stopfer of Irving TX, and Crystal & Michael Osman of Surprise AZ.
Dana is preceded in death by his parents, Bruce Palmer & Sylvia (Larsen) Palmer originally from Canova SD, and the father-in-law he never met, Donald W. Hansen (1930-2005) of Sioux Falls SD.
Due to the Corona Virus pandemic (COVID-19), a celebration of Dana's life will not be held until the Spring. For an invitation, please send request to Susan. Condolences may be sent to S. Palmer, 2007 W. Johnson Pl, Sioux Falls, SD 57105. Dana was cremated at the Heritage Funeral Home in Sioux Falls, SD.
