Julie Susan Job
October 27, 1950 - April 21, 2021

Julie Susan Job was born in Aberdeen SD on October 27, 1950, to Joseph Volk and Ruth (Rix) Volk. The youngest of her siblings, she was doted on by her parents, her brother Rix and her sister Jackie. Julie attended the public school system until starting at Roncalli Catholic High School, graduating in 1968. Julie attended NSTC (NSU) in Aberdeen, where her precocious and facetious personality captured the interest of Thomas Job, who was smitten and asked her to be his wife. They married February 25, 1972, and immediately after, packed all their belongings into one vehicle and moved to Huron, SD to begin their life together.

Tom and Julie lived in Huron for about 18 months. In that time, they met Susan Fenski, who was to become a lifelong friend. They also welcomed their first child, Jennifer, in August of 1974. The family then moved to Valley City, ND for 6 months before settling in Jamestown, ND for 8 years as Tom pursued a career with Tradehome Shoes. In Jamestown they welcomed another daughter, Jessica, in December of 1977. They also helped raise their nephew, Chris Hinckley. In 1983, the family relocated to Sioux Falls, SD for a career opportunity for Tom with Northwestern Bell Yellow Pages. Instinctively, they knew Sioux Falls offered opportunities for personal and professional growth and would become their home.

During Julie’s search for the perfect career, she sampled many options. She spent time as a receptionist in a beauty salon, worked as a bank teller, gave microwave oven cooking classes for Lifetime Appliance in Jamestown, and even worked for her husband for a short time as an assistant manager for Tradehome Shoes. From these jobs, Julie learned she wasn’t very keen on “punching a clock” and going out to lunch was very important to her. She turned her focus on Real Estate and got her license in 1980. It was a tough market, but in her first year, Julie sold 1 million dollars of real estate where the average sale was $45,000 and interest rates were 18%. She had found her calling, She loved finding the prefect home for her clients.

Throughout her 40 years in the industry, Julie excelled not only in sales, but also in the Real Estate community by serving on countless committees and boards at the local, state, and national level. As education director she brought Realtor education back to the forefront, resurrecting a bus caravan staffed with educators. It traveled around the state to raise the level of expertise of every realtor. She served as President of South Dakota Realtors, President of Realtor Association of the Sioux Empire, and Director on the National Board of Realtors representing South Dakota Realtors. She was awarded Sioux Falls Realtor of the Year in 1992 and the Lifetime Achievement award in 2019.

Julie loved her family, her job, and going to the cabin at Pickerel Lake in SD. Countless weekends in the summer throughout her life were spent at the lake with immediate and extended family due to her mother Ruth’s genius foresight of securing several lots on the lake in 1954. Tom and Julie prioritized lake time for their own family as well, and Jennifer and Jessica grew up at the lake surrounded by aunts, uncles, and cousins. Julie discovered a great way to spend even more time at the lake by combining her love of Real Estate with her love of the lake. She began to sell properties on and around Pickerel and quickly became the go-to agent for lake properties, known for her expertise and knowledge of the area.

Julie had countless joys in her life, but one of the most notable was the birth of her granddaughter Lexi in 1998. Julie loved being a grandmother and loved her grandchild unconditionally from the moment she learned of her coming. Julie was very happy she did not have to adhere to any parenting rules as a grandmother, and used her grandmother status to love, encourage, and support Lexi as only a grandmother can.

For all the blessings in Julie’s life, it was not without tragedy as well. Her daughter Jennifer passed away in June of 2008, and the Job family was changed forever. The devastation of losing a child is never forgotten, but Julie and her family chose to become even closer after Jenny passed. Julie’s faith had always been strong, but this made it stronger. There is solace in Jesus, and Julie knew that Jennifer was safe in His care. She never stopped missing her but took some comfort in knowing she would see her again someday in Heaven.

Julie was diagnosed with cancer in January of 2018, but again, handled the news with grace and dignity. She never asked why it happened to her or became angry or discouraged. She focused on what she could control, and that was her faith, her love of family and friends, and a positive attitude. Her personality and humor were well known, and she was a beacon that people gravitated to, even after her diagnosis. She continued to work for as long as she could and spent time with her family at the lake and at home, to make the most of the time she had left.

Julie actively supported the charities of Realtors for Kids and Feeding South Dakota. She volunteered on the Finance Committee of both St. Michael’s and St. Katharine Drexel parishes, and also taught CCD at Christ the King. She was known for her big heart, and privately helped many individuals she saw in need. There was no limit to her kindness.

Julie is preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Ruth, her brother Rix, and her daughter Jennifer. Eternally grateful for sharing her life is her husband Tom, her daughter Jessica, and her granddaughter Lexi, as well as countless other relatives and friends.
