Stephen Joseph McGreevy
June 17, 1944 - May 23, 2021
Stephen Joseph McGreevy passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at Ava’s Hospice House on May 23rd, 2021. Stephen was born in Omaha NE on June 17th, 1944 to Joseph (Blackie) and Ann McGreevy. He graduated from Washington High School in 1962. Stephen attended USD where he played football and concluded his education at St. Benedicts with a major in legal studies.
Stephen is survived by his wife Susan McGreevy of 53 years. Children Shawn McGreevy (Troy) Minneapolis, MN, Steve McGreevy, Jr. of Sioux Falls, SD, Shane McGreevy (Melanie) Chandler, AZ, Katie Houser (Dustin) Sioux Falls,and Shea (Mikey) McGreevy (Erin) Sioux Falls, 13 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Brothers William McGreevy of Sioux Falls, SD and Robert McGreevy of Huntington Beach, CA and sister Michaela McGreevy – Ferri of Knoxville, TN. Sister in-law Joan Scanlon of Brooklyn Center, MN and Brother in-law John Reiter (Katie) Eugene OR
Stephen and Sue started their journey on February 4, 1968 in Minneapolis MN as the earlier years went by, they gave birth to their adorable 3 older sons. During this time Stephen work in the legal system in Minneapolis while attending Hamline school of law. After finishing his law degree, Stephen and Sue headed to Sioux Falls to continue their journey. Stephen worked for Western Surety in the legal department until moving into everchanging insurance industry. During this time, the frisky couple welcomed their precious daughter and active son to complete the family.
Stephen and Sue lead a highly active life with their kids and grandkids, Stephen coached basketball, soccer and mastered the art of building skateboard ramps. He also mentored many other kids in Sioux Falls who needed a father figure. Stephen was an avid college football fan and traveled to many games with his son Steve Jr over the past 20 years. The family spent their summers over the years in Crosslake MN and the country club where the kids enjoyed charging everything to Stephens’s account.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorials be directed to Ava’s House and Rock Steady Boxing – the Inn on Westport.
Funeral services will bel held 11:00 am Thursday, May 27, 2021 at Heritage Funeral Home. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00pm Wednesday, May 26, 2021 with family present to greet friends at Heritage Funeral Home.
