Jerauld "Jerry" Arlyn Sundberg

Sioux Falls, SD ~ Jerauld “Jerry” Arlyn Sundberg, age 76, died on Sunday, July 5, 2020 at Ava’s House by Sanford Health in Sioux Falls, SD. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, July 11, 2020 at George Boom Funeral Home & On-Site Crematory in Sioux Falls, SD. Visitation with family present beginning at 1:00 P.M. until the time of service.
Jerauld “Jerry" Sundberg was born on July 20, 1943 45 minutes ahead of his twin sister, Janet in Madison, SD to Edwin and Ella (Ellingson) Sundberg. Jerry was raised in Oldham, SD until his family moved to Erwin, SD in 1956. Jerry attended high school at Erwin, SD graduating in 1961. In October of 1961, Jerry began his service in the United States Army. Following his honorable discharge in 1964, Jerry returned to South Dakota and began his career of 50 plus years driving 18-wheelers across the United States. For many of those years he drove as an owner/operator with Midwest Coast Transport and then Dakota Carriers before his last job with Winter Incorporated, from which he retired.
Jerry was united in marriage with Marlys Brugman in 1966. From this union, Jerry and Marlys were blessed with a daughter, Marcia and son, Michael. The family lived in Ortonville, MN before making their home in Sioux Falls, SD in 1970.
Jerry enjoyed fishing, hunting, cheering on the Minnesota Vikings and the New England Patriots, Nascar with his favorite driver, Jimmy Johnson. He had a passion for riding his motorcycle and made it a point to never miss the Rally in Sturgis. Jerry loved following the Minnesota Twins and could be found daily listening to their games on his radio. Above all, Jerry loved spending time with his family and friends.
Grateful for having shared his life are his daughter, Marcia Ellis and her husband, Evan of Sioux Falls, SD; his twin sister, Janet Skyberg and her husband, Paul of Renner, SD; grandchildren, Joseph Blankartz and his fiancé, Kortney Klein, Breanna McCormick, Trista McCormick and Maygen Sundberg and their mother, Amy McCormick; five great-grandchildren; special friend, Shari Sorenson of Sioux Falls, SD; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Michael Allen Sundberg; and one brother, Duane Eugene Sundberg.
