Bill was born on March 29, 1948 in Delwein, Iowa. Bill was adopted on May 3, 1951 by his dad, William Northrop.

Bill graduated High School in Independence, Iowa in 1967. He then joined the Army and served in Vietnam from 1968-1970 within the 458th Transportation Company (the 458th Sea Tigers.) The 458th was the only Army unit to have a Navy River Patrol Boat.

In 1972 Bill married jane Vaske of Strawberry Point, Iowa and they had two daughters Stacy and Tracy. Bill and Jane later divorced and made his way to South Dakota.

In 1995 Bill met Jackie at an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting. She knew right away that he was kind, trustworthy, honest, caring, gentle and a loving person. He had 25 years of sobriety and was very humble about his sobriety. Bill and Jackie married in 2006 making their home in Sioux Falls with Jackie’s two boys; Eric and Greg. Bill enjoyed teaching the boys about mechanics and mentoring the boys over the years.

Throughout his life he worked for many years as an over the road truck driver, a mechanic, Wyco Construction. His last job was working for Minnehaha County Highway Transportation department where he retired.

Bill was incredibly proud to have served his country. He loved his Army brother and would not fogo a chance to spend time and share stories with them. You could often find Bill tinkering in his garage from shining chrome on his Harley to rebuilding one. Bill would often say the only time he felt no pain was when he was riding his Harley!
