James Alan Einerwold died November 23, 2020 at Avantara Norton nursing home in Sioux Falls, SD. He was 81.
James Alan Einerwold was born September 4, 1939 in Madison, SD to James and Rosella (Rasmussen) Einerwold. He attended Howard public school and graduated from Howard High School in 1957. Following high school, he enlisted in the Army. He was a corporal of the Army Artillery Division National Guard of South Dakota. In 1961 he began his lifelong career as a lineman for the telephone company. His career spanned many transitions of company and technology. He took pride in his work and his work community. He had several long-term coworkers that were close friends.
On January 20, 1962 he was united in marriage with Dorothy VanderHeiden. They lived and raised their four children in Aberdeen, SD until a job transfer brought them to Sioux Falls, SD in 1996. In 2003 he retired after 42 years in his occupation for medical reasons. In 2014 James transitioned to nursing home care due to Parkinson dementia. Sadly, he succumbed to the Covid virus.
James grew up near Howard, SD and enjoyed hunting and fishing with his brothers and cousins in the area. He often traveled back to Howard to visit extended family and enjoyed many years of Einerwold and Rasmussen reunions. James had a special 80th birthday celebration at Avantara. It was a family reunion of sort that brought back many special childhood memories. His grandmother Christine Rasmussen was a nurse during the 1918 flu pandemic. James passed on his love for the outdoors, fishing and hunting to his children. He also enjoyed cars, especially those that reminded him of his youth.
