Mabel "May" Rabenberg
July 23, 1946 - December 10, 2020
Mabel “May” Rabenberg, age 74, died Thursday December 10, 2020 at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD. Family will greet friends from 5:00-7:00 PM with funeral services at 7:00 PM Monday, December 14, 2020 at Miller Funeral Home 507 S. Main Avenue. Family graveside services will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery. Masks are required. The service will be streamed on Miller Funeral Home's YouTube page. May was born on July 23, 1946 in Sioux Falls, SD to Glenn and Marie (Larson) Gilbertson. Her family later moved to California and when she was 13 years old they moved back to Sioux Falls where she graduated from Washington High.
May then began working at the Pepsi Cola Bottling Company where she met the love of her life. On May 1, 1970 she married her best friend and biggest supporter, Larry Rabenberg. They recently celebrated their 50 years together. The couple raised their four children in Sioux Falls. May also worked various jobs before beginning a 25-year career of caring for children at Children’s Care Hospital and School.
May enjoyed bowling, traveling and playing cards. Nothing made May happier than spending time with her husband, kids and grandchildren, creating memories. It did not matter what the grandchildren needed; you could always count on Grandma to be there.
She was preceded in death by her son James, parents Glen Gilbertson, Marie (Henry) Finck, her in-laws, Freda and Thomas Rabenberg and her siblings, Edith Schmidt, Glen Gilbertson; and her best friend Lorraine Kreft.
May will be dearly missed by her husband Larry; son Robert Rabenberg; daughters, Lisa (Chris) Amundson and Glenda (Tony Brandt) Rabenberg; and grandchildren, Zachary, Grace, Dustin, Nathan, McKenzie, Esther; a great grandchild, Harper; and her daughter in-law, Leesa Rabenberg.
Her parents and son James, preceded her in death.
