From his birth in Tacoma, WA on March 31, 1963, to his passing on Friday, he lived an active lifestyle. Paul was raised with his siblings Crystal and Lanae in Sioux Falls where he would graduate from Lincoln High School. Many of his childhood days were spent with his grandmother in Rock Rapids, IA.
It is in Sioux Falls where he met his wife, Karen Kay Mehlbrech, with which he raised their two children, Ben and Betsy. Paul was always on the go as a mechanic, sprint car builder, World of Outlaws sprint car crew member, and owner of Redi Towing. He found it important to participate in local and national political discussions that would positively impact local businesses and healthcare for patients with kidney disease.
He cherished his family and friends with whom he spent much time outdoors as a hunter, fisherman, and racing fan. His love, protection, and wisdom were always things he was willing to share. Hunting, fishing, and racing were a passion of his. Never one to shy from a challenge, he was proud of his accomplishments of elk and bear hunting in Colorado and Alaska while he was on dialysis.
Paul is survived by his wife, Karen Van Vooren; children, Ben Van Vooren and Betsy Van Vooren; his grandchildren, Elija and Elivia Van Vooren; sisters, Crystal Van Vooren and Lanae (Chris) Bolte; nieces and nephews, Mikaela, Caleb, and Jacob; and a host of many other relatives and friends.
Paul was preceded in death by his mother, Cynthia Van Vooren; uncle, Sonny Schuurman; aunt, Virann Ranney; his grandmothers, Gert Schuurman and Emma Van Vooren; grandpa, Ben Van Vooren.
