Greta Clements-Drew
December 18, 1935 - June 07, 2008
Greta was born December 18, 1935, in Madison, SD, to Sylvester and Eva (Coppersmith) Mathison. She graduated from DeSmet High School and then attended college in Huron, SD. After earning her degree, she began working at Mailway Printers in Sioux Falls.
She was united in marriage to Fred D. Clements on April 15, 1957, in Sioux Falls. In 1968, the family moved to Dell Rapids, SD, where she became a homemaker. In 1972, Fred and Greta purchased and operated “Smokey's”. Fred preceded her in death in 1980. In 2003, after three decades, Greta sold “Smokey's” and retired.
Greta enjoyed traveling and particularly liked trips to Arizona during the wintertime. Going back to childhood days when she would fish with her father, Greta loved dropping a line in the Big Sioux River for catfish. In the summer months, she liked gardening. Growing flowers and plants alike, she also liked canning fresh vegetables.
Those who remember her best will fondly recall her talent for cooking and baking. Blessed with an easy-going and loving spirit, Greta was kind and generous. She would routinely “adopt” less-fortunate people and was always concerned with the well-being of others before her own.
Grateful for having shared her life are her sons, Rick Clements, Sioux Falls, SD, Steve Clements and his wife, Clarice, Egan, SD; daughters, Nancy Groeneveld and her husband, Paul, Sioux Falls, SD, Jean Clements, Sioux Falls, SD; six grandchildren, Randy, Austin, Aaron, Alicia, Emily, Katy; brother, Terry Mathison and his wife, Ellie, Sioux Falls, SD; special friend, Paul Sehr, Egan, SD; and her step-father, Dale Haufle, Lake Preston, SD. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by parents and sister, Carol Cavanaugh.
