Bruce Hasche
September 28, 1953 - February 25, 2020

Bruce Hasche, 66, passed away unexpectedly from an unknown medical condition on Tuesday, February 25, 2020.

Bruce was born September 28, 1953, to Eldon and Betty Hasche in Baltimore, Maryland. Bruce grew up in Gregory, SD, and in Sioux Falls, where he graduated from Lincoln High School in 1971. A talented student, he graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of South Dakota in 1976 with a bachelor’s degree in Economics, Math, German, and Political Science and earned a master’s degree in Professional Accountancy in 1980. Bruce married Wendy Petersen on June 7, 1980 and they were blessed to enjoy nearly 40 years of marriage.

Bruce began his career as a CPA in Minneapolis before moving to Sioux Falls in 1984. A respected member of the Sioux Falls business community, he served as controller at Raven Industries for seven years and at Sencore Electronics for more than 25 years. In 1995, he was chosen as the Chairman of the South Dakota Delegation to the White House Conference on Small Business. He also volunteered his time with the Rotary Clubs of Sioux Falls and Junior Achievement.

A man of great faith, Bruce participated actively as a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, having served on the Church Governing Board and in several other capacities over the years. He held a deep love for music, cantoring regularly in church services and playing in the handbell choir. Bruce also sang in several choral groups in his lifetime, including the Sioux Falls Master Singers, Prairie Song, and most recently the South Dakota Symphony Chorus. Along with his wife, he also enjoyed regularly attending musical concerts and arts performances in the surrounding Sioux Falls area.

True to his hometown roots, Bruce remained an avid Baltimore sports fan, cheering wholeheartedly for the Ravens and the Orioles. His unique sense of humor and infectious laugh sparked joy in countless family members and friends.

Bruce’s humility was a defining aspect of his life. As an alcoholic in recovery, his 17 years of sobriety brought hope and counsel to those in need. His kind, generous spirit loved nothing more than giving back to others. He was a regular supporter and participant in Church on the Street ministries, volunteered weekly at Sharing the Dream in Guatemala store in downtown Sioux Falls, established scholarships at Augustana University and University of South Dakota, created a charitable fund with the Sioux Falls Area Community Foundation, and donated regularly to institutions and causes near to his heart. Along with his wife, he also loved to support the endeavors of his three children, volunteering to chaperone countless band and choir trips in their middle and high school years.

Grateful for sharing Bruce’s life are his wife, Wendy; sons Bret Hasche (Dana) and Ben Hasche (Elise); daughter Megan Tvedt (Eric); and sisters Beth St. Clair (Randy) and Elaine Hasche. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will take place at Heritage Funeral Home on Sunday, March 1, from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Funeral services will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, March 2, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. A private family interment will take place prior to the funeral service at Woodlawn Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, Bruce's family kindly asks that you direct memorials to Church on the Street, the Bruce and Wendy Hasche Family fund at the Sioux Falls Area Community Foundation, or the Bruce and Wendy Hasche Vocal Music Scholarship at the University of South Dakota.
