Harry was born on June 23, 1902 on a farm near Luverne, MN to Fritz and Sophia Pien Petersen. He was educated in both Rock County and rural Riverview township schools, having moved when he was eleven years old with his family to Moody County. He farmed for a time in Riverview township before his marriage on November 1, 1926 to Nina Lee at Sioux Falls. They continued to farm in Moody County until the fall of 1975 when they moved into Flandreau to make their home. He moved to Riverview Manor in October, 1990 and has resided there until his recent illness. He was a member of the Flandreau United Methodist Church.
He is survived by three sons, Donald, Portland, OR, Fred and Douglas, both of Flandreau; four daughters, Harriett, Mrs. Neil Whitesell, Rapid City, Dorothy, Mrs. Joe DeChiro, Dale, TX, Nina Sue, Mrs. Marlon Thielsen and Helen, Mrs. Gary Nass, both of Flandreau; 26 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren; two brothers, William and Fritz and one sister, Amanda Brandsma, all of Flandreau. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nina (November 5, 1989) his parents and two sisters.
