Ray Reiners
August 26, 1931 - November 29, 2023
Ray Reiners, 92, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota passed away on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at Doughtery Hospice in Sioux Falls. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 6, 2023, at George Boom Funeral Home & On-Site Crematory in Sioux Falls. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, December 7, 2023, also at the funeral home.
Ray Steele Reiners, son of Henry and Rose (Rist) Reiners was born August 26, 1931, in Canistota, South Dakota. Ray grew up in Sioux Falls and graduated from Washington High School with the class of 1950. Following high school, he served in the United States Air Force until earning his Honorable Discharge in 1955. He was proud of his service and continued in the Air National Guard for another 32 years. Ray also belonged to the Air Force Association. Weekly coffee meetings with his former Air Guard friends were always enjoyed. He dedicated 32 years with South Dakota Social Services, retiring in 1991.
Following his Active-Duty service, he earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Augustana. On June 1, 1960, he was united in marriage to Darlene Reiners. After their marriage the couple briefly moved to Mitchell, South Dakota. In 1964 the couple relocated to Lincoln, Nebraska, for a year and finally made their home back in Sioux Falls. Ray volunteered as a Boy Scout Troop Leader in Sioux Falls and had an immeasurable impact on the special needs children he mentored. He was a longtime member of First Congregational Church in Sioux Falls. He enjoyed gardening and volunteer driving for “Project Car” in Sioux Falls. Any time spent with his grandchildren was cherished time.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Debra Reiners of Sioux Falls and Julie (Tim) Larson of Beresford; grandchildren, Andrew (Jenna) Larson of Beresford, Rachel (Kevin) Kral of New Ulm, MN, and Aaron Larson of Beresford; great grandchildren, Kora and Brynlee; and extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Rose; wife, Darlene; and son, Dr. Michael Reiners.
