Arlys Sewalson
August 29, 1936 - April 20, 2022
Arlys Sewalson, a lifelong follower of Christ, was called home on April 20, 2022. She touched the lives of many people during her 85 years on Earth.
Funeral services for Arlys will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 27, 2022 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church. Private family burial will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery prior to the funeral. Family will be present for visitation at Heritage Funeral Home from 4:00-6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 26, 2022.
Arlys was born on August 29, 1936, to Oscar and Edna Hetland. The oldest of 3 children. After a move to South Dakota from Iowa at the age of 5 she grew up on a farm near Baltic. The farm life was a good place to utilize her energy. As well as 6 years in a small country schoolhouse.
Following High School graduation at Lyons High School she received an Elementary Teaching Certificate at Augustana College.
Music played a big part in her life even to the point of meeting her future husband, Darrel Sewalson, at a local Baltic ban rehearsal. They were married on August 11, 1956 and celebrated 59 ½ years together.
Following marriage she entered the teaching field for 2 years in the Sioux Falls School system, but her heart was in meeting a variety of people and sales work. The World Book Encyclopedia Co. provided those features and she remained with the company as a manager and sales representative for a total of 37 years.
A big part of her life also revolved around the church. She was a member of Our Saviors her entire married life and served in various capacities, such as Sunday school teacher, finance board, areas of volunteering, and in retirement years, monthly visits with the elderly in assisted living and rest homes.
Blessed to have shared her life are her daughter Ann Lawrence of Omaha, NE and son Mark (Lisa) of Olathe, KS; Three grandchildren, Kyle Sewalson, Emily Sewalson Murphy, and Nikki Lawrence, one great grandchild Everett Murphy; Sister Ellie Anderson of Fergus Falls, MN and brother Dave (Jo) Hetland of Georgia; Also, a number of nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband Darrel and her parents Oscar and Edna Hetland.
The family of Arlys than you for your support and presence today. An invitation is extended to join them at the gathering place in the church for refreshments and fellowship following the service.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be directed to Lutheran Outdoors or Our Saviors Lutheran Building Fund.
