Gloria Elaine Stevicks Connot was born March 31, 1946 at Burke, SD the third of eight children born to the family of Roy M. and Ruby (Baxa) Stevicks. She grew up on the family farm south of Gregory and attended Jones West Central school near her home. During her childhood years Gloria developed her love of animals - a trait that she carried through her lifetime -especially for horses. She graduated from Burke High School and worked as a candy striper in the Burke Hospital during those years.
After graduation she lived in Pierre where she worked as a waitress and attended schooling to become a nurse. She married Richard Volk and they had three children: John , Rich and June.
Gloria returned to Gregory and was living there when she met Jack Wenger at the Carlock Dance. They were married and moved on the Donason Homestead near Mills, NE. They had three children Jackson, Shelby and Jerrod. Besides taking care of her family, Gloria enjoyed raising calves, milking cows, riding horses, helping with the haying, planting and harvesting the crops. She took great pride creating a home that was warm and inviting to all.
Gloria and Kevin Connot were married in 1990. For many years they spent their time milking cows for area dairy farmers. Soon after they bought the Parkside Motel where they serviced many patrons and also cared for the elderly in an assisted living section of the facility.
After selling the motel they moved to the old Butler farm. It was there that she spent most of her time doing what she truly loved - caring for her horses, livestock and pets. It was on the farm where an accident took her life on January 10, 2009.
Gloria was well known for her outstanding work ethic. She was currently employed at Buches where she truly enjoyed visiting and helping the various customers who came into the store. She had a very big heart and was always willing to help others. Her love for animals led to her having several pets, which she loved dearly.
She is survived by her husband Kevin of Gregory, 5 children: Rick Volk and wife Shelly of Eau Claire, WS; , June Volk of Maple Grave, MN , Jackson Wenger and wife LeAnn of Rapid City, SD; Shelby Bertram and husband Allan of Chamberlain, SD , and Jerrod Wenger and fianc' Lindsey of Rapid city, SD,; and by her parents Roy and Ruby Stevicks of Gregory. She is also survived by her six siblings: Norma Antrim and husband Bob; Roy Allen Stevicks and wife Betty; Karen Gilbert and husband Glen, Debbie Hoffman, Renee Cook and husband Todd; and Rhonda Ehnes and husband Shane and by 11 grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and friends.
She was proceeded in death by infant sister Sharon and infant son John.
