Irene Carol Eddie,83,of Winner, SD, passed away peacefully on September 11, at the Winner Regional Healthcare Center after suffering with Leukemia for almost two years.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at the First Christian Church in Winner with burial services following at the Winner Cemetery. Visitation will begin on Tuesday, September 14 from 4-7 PM at Mason Funeral Home in Winner.
Irene Carol Fast, daughter of Mabel and Clyde Fast was born on April 13, 1927 in Clearfield, South Dakota. Irene grew up in the Clearfield community and attended the Star Prairie School. She graduated from Winner High School in 1946 with Honors and was a member of the High Honors Society.
After graduation, Irene worked for a year in Winner as a secretary for the States Attorney and later at the Farmer State Bank.
On September 24, 1947, she married Lee Eddie and they raised five children: Linda, Dennis, Randy, Ron and Darla.
Irene's passion for life was through her many children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was very proud of her large brood and always had a new picture or story to share with visitors.
Irene had a feisty attitude towards life and kept herself active with various hobbies such as tending a bright and colorful garden, listening to polka music, tackling difficult crossword puzzles, and cheering on the Minnesota Twins.
She also enjoyed many a card game on Saturday nights and trips to casinos with friends.
Grateful for having shared her life are her husband Lee, her children: Linda (Jack) Gibbs, Gilbert, AZ, Dennis Eddie, Chandler, AZ, Randy (Valora) Eddie, Winner, SD, Ron Eddie, Austin, TX, Darla (Bill) Pistulka, Mitchell, SD; 11 grandchildren: Kevin and Kelly Gibbs; Scott and Sarah Eddie; Sharon, Diane, Dan, Jaden, and Jaxen Eddie; and Kristin and William Pistulka, and three great-grandchildren: Ethan, Lukas, and Treyden Gibbs.
She was preceded in death by her parents Clyde and Mabel Fast, her sisters: Frances Fast and Velma Johnson and brothers: Lloyd, Alvie "Doc", Harvey Fast.
