William A. Stombaugh was born on August 5, 1907 at Egan to Joseph and Nellie Chamley Stombaugh. He received his education at Egan Public school graduating with the class of 1927. After completing his education he farmed with his father for a short time near Egan and then worked for the Barnsdall Oil Company at Mitchell and Pipestone. In 1932 he returned to Egan and started farming. He was married to Veronica Malone on February 6, 1937 at Flandreau. They farmed until 1979 when he retired. For 30 years he was a baseball umpire in the area. He was Egan city auditor, served on the Moody County school board, was a member of the United Methodist Church and served on the church board, secretary of Hillside Cemetery association, served on the Egan fire department for over 25 years and was a member of the Egan Senior Citizens.

Survivors
He is survived by his wife Veronica; one son Wayne, Sioux Falls; two daughters, Rosemary, Mrs. Richard Campbell, Torrance, CA and Shiela, Mrs. William Wasserman, Sioux Falls; eight grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Belle Hodge, Glendale, CA, Evelyn, Mrs. Dale Hodge, Sioux Falls and Mrs. Geneva Boggs, Glendale, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents, one infant son, Mark, one sister, one brother and one infant brother.
