Madelyn Smouse, 96, of Dell Rapids passed away on Sunday, October 24, 2010 at the Desert Cove Nursing Center in Chandler, AZ. Her funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 2, 2010 at the Lutheran Church of Dell Rapids Chapel. Visitation will begin two hours prior to the start of the funeral service.
Madelyn Hanson was born on September 6, 1914 at Roseau, MN, the daughter of Peter and Mabel Hanson. She grew up and graduated from high school at Roseau. After high school she worked in Minneapolis as a sales clerk for several years. In 1942, she moved to Bakersfield, CA. A year later on October 27, 1943, she married Charles Smouse. They later moved to West Virginia and then to Arizona. In 1973, Madelyn moved to Dell Rapids where she worked for the Rickeman family at the variety store.
Madelyn was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Omar Hanson, and her two sisters, Minerva Wunderlich and Harriet Anderson.
She is survived by her sons, David (Mary) Smouse of Ephrata, WA and Richard Smouse of Chandler, AZ; her three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, her brothers, David Hanson of Minneapolis, MN and Pierce "Bud" Hanson of Sioux Falls and her sister, Joan Reynolds Davenport of Battle Lake, MN.
