Ane Katrine Olesen, the daughter of Jens and Ane Olesen, was born December 14, 1867, the second of eight children, all of whom preceded her in death. She lived to be 84 years and seven months of age. She passed away Wednesday morning July 16, 1952.
At the age of six, she came with her parents to Dakota territory. They left the train at Worthington, Minnesota, the closest station and came to their Homestead, the farm nearest the Sioux Valley Baptist Church, 8 miles northeast of Dell Rapids.
Her father, the Rev. Jens Olesen was the one person responsible for the organization of the Sioux Valley Baptist Church in May 1874, and on April 6, 1887, she was the third person baptized by the pastor, Rev. Charlie Johnson, in the river near the church.
Ane Katrine Olesen was married to Tinus M. Anderson, March 14, 1888. To this union six children were born. One daughter, Annette, died in infancy.
Grandma Anderson had been in failing health the last few months, however, she was continuously busy crocheting, sewing and knitting mittens for her great grandchildren and countless friends of the community, up until one month of her death.
She leaves to mourn her departure one son, Everett J.; four daughters, Mrs. Alfred Peterson, Mrs. Joseph Christensen, Mrs. George Hoyer, and Mrs. Elsie Christensen; eight grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. One grandson preceded her in death.
The service was conducted by the Rev. Sanford G. Cleveland and Rev. LeRoy Schauer from of the Sioux Valley Baptist Church.
The pallbearers were: Walter Reed, Herman Olsen, Elmer Christensen, Gus Carlson, Roy Vipond and Murat Dougherty.
Interment was made at the Dell Rapids Cemetery, beside the body of her husband who passed away in August, 1932.
Attending the services from away were Mrs. Chris Jorgenson, Sioux Falls and Mr. and Mrs. Paul Nesby of Sioux Falls; Mr. and Mrs. Roy Vipond of Hudson, South Dakota; Mr. and Mrs. Murat Dougherty of Alton, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. A.C. Anderson, Elkton, South Dakota, Mr. and Mrs. T.M. Anderson of Hayti, South Dakota and Mrs. John Wayne of Clarks Grove Minnesota.
