Nellie Byson ABERLE

Dell Rapids Cemetery - Dell Rapids Cemetery
Minnehaha County,
South Dakota

1885 - 1918

Nellie's story was not talked about much in the family. They had to put her in an institution. Fred was bitter because he thought her family should have told him about her mental instabillities. Her brother was Judson Crisp. He lived near them on a farm about 6 miles out of Trent. After Nellie was put in the institution, the Aberles and their spinster daughter, Anna, came to live with Fred and Genevieve and help run the house. After the Aberles went home, Anna stayed to help out. However, when Fred married Mary Heyer, Genevieve and her Aunt Anna went back to Ohio to live with the Joseph Aberles. Apparently, Mary didn't intend to raise another woman's child. There must have been some sort of divorce, because Nellie didn't die until 1918, after Lyle and the twins were born. Margaret never saw her half sister, Genevieve, again until she was about 50.
