Evelyn G. Sieps
(July 28, 1914 - January 6, 2009)
Evelyn Genevieve Johnson was born on July 28, 1914 in Moody County near Trent, SD, the daughter of John and Luella (Ellefson) Johnson. She grew up on the family farm near Trent and attended Pleasant Prairie School. She graduated from Egan High School in 1934. She married Harvey Leuning on December 2, 1937. The couple lived on a farm east of Dell Rapids. They had three daughters and a son. Harvey passed away in 1961. Evelyn married Willis Sieps on July 28, 1963 at the Reformed Church in the Logan Township. The couple continued to live on the farm until 1983 when they moved in to Dell Rapids. In November of 2006, the couple moved to Orchard Hills in Dell Rapids.
Evelyn taught many crafts and ceramics. She was a member of the Reformed Church, the RCW, M & M Extension Club and Paint and Palette Club. She taught Sunday school and Bible Relief Time in Dell Rapids.
Evelyn went to live with her heavenly Father on Tuesday, January 6, 2009 at the Dells Area Health Center. She was 94 and preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, and two sisters.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Willis Sieps of Dell Rapids; her three daughters, Judy (Blaine) Sagmoe of Yankton, SD, Bonnie Berg of Olathe, Kansas, Evonne (Gerald) Meyer of Loveland, CO; her son, Harvey (Cheryl) Leuning of Eagan, MN; her six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and her two sisters, Viola Dahlmeier of Trent and Bernice (Orville) Crawford of Sioux Falls.
Her funeral service will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 9, 2009 at the Reformed Church in Dell Rapids. Interment will be in the Logan Reformed Cemetery, rural Dell Rapids. Visitation will begin at noon on Thursday, January 8, 2009 at Kahler Funeral Home with the family present at 7:00 p.m.
