Marybelle was slain in her home on 2 July 2011 by a recently released SD prison immate.

Marybelle traveled the world in fight against tuberculosis. She was devoted to welfare and comfort of others, Friends celebrate caregiver who lived in a cloud of glory.

Sioux Falls - Maybelle Fetters Schein, 75, passed away on Saturday, July 2, 2011. Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm, Friday, July 8 at the United Methodist Church, Hartford, SD. Visitation will begin at 2:00 pm with family present from 5-7 pm on Thursday, July 7 at Heritage Funeral Home with a 6:30 prayer service. Maybelle Fetters was born April 11, 1936 and grew up on a farm near Humboldt, SD. She attended nursing training at Methodist Hospital in Mitchell and graduated from Dakota Wesleyan University in 1961. Early in her career, she taught nursing at Methodist Hospital and at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls. After leaving Sioux Falls, Schein spent 33 years working for the Center for Disease Control (CDC). Her assignments included national and international travel. She worked for 23 years in New York City doing clinical research trials with Tuberculosis and later HIV. She was proud to be a part of the many advances in clinical management brought about because of that research. Maybelle then spent 10 years in the CDC home office in Atlanta where she represented the Tuberculosis Division in therapy trials, national meetings and was co-founder of the National TB Nursing Network. She returned to SD in 1995 and was an RN at the Dougherty Hospice House. Maybelle received an Alumni Award for Outstanding Professional Achievement from Dakota Wesleyan University in 2008. Survivors include her three brothers Robert (Donna) and Ted of Sioux Falls and Stan (Donna) from Battle Lake, MN; and her precious nieces and nephews and special friends Marge Anderson, Yvonne Doss and Miriam Waddington. She is also survived by her very special Westies Duffy and Molly and her cat Split. MayBelle was preceded in death by her parents Dow and Mabel Fetters, her husband Jerry Schein, her nephews Luke Schonberger and Mike Fetters and sister-in-law Renee Fetters. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Dougherty Hospice House or the United Methodist Church in Hartford. www.heritagesfsd.com
