Arthur "Art" Larson, age 85, died Wednesday, Mar. 9, 2011 at Sanford Canton Inwood Hospital, Canton, SD.
Funeral service will begin at 2:00 p.m., Monday, Mar. 14, 2011 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Fairview, SD. with burial to follow at Bethany Lutheran Cemetery.
Arthur Mailand Larson was born Oct. 26, 1925 in Chokio, MN to Oscar and Christine (Brynjulson) Larson. Art grew up in the Canton area and graduated from Canton High School. Art served in the U.S. Army. Art married Betty Jean Strand on Jan. 29, 1954 at the Canton Lutheran Church. The couple soon moved to a farm near Fairview in which they still lived. Art was a loving Father, Husband, Grandpa and Brother, but will be most remembered as a kind, gentle man with strong work ethics. After retiring from farming at age 65, he began a 15 year career at the Canton, SD elevator. He also milked cows for 40+ years. When not working, Art enjoyed trips to the Black Hills, sang with the Grieg Male Chorus, and traveled to Denver, CO to visit family. Grateful for having shared Art's life are his wife, Betty, Fairview, SD; son Craig, Sioux Falls, SD; daughters, Sandra (Dan) Kearney, Sioux Falls, SD, and Joni (Doug) Groskopf of Golden, CO; grandchildren, Thomas "Tommy" Tryhorn, Arvada, CO, Dani Tryhorn, Arvada, CO, Jeni Larson Miller, Sioux Falls, SD, Liz Larson Fields, Sioux Falls, SD and six great-grandchildren; sisters, Roma Larson, Lennox, SD, and Velma Johnson, Lennox, SD; niece Faye Fossum, Canton, SD; nephews, Carlyle Johnson, TX, Maynard Johnson, Lennox, SD, and Joel Johnson, CA; along with many cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
