Mrs. Daniel Wagner's Life Had Been
One Of Unusual Activity and
Devotion

A life filled with hard work and activities of all kinds until illness caused a pause, but a life lived cheerfully and uncomplainingly came to an end early Wednesday morning when the soul of Mrs. Daniel Wagner left the frail body. She had been ill for many years, confined to her bed much of the time for the past three years and under the care of trained nurses during the latter period. The family as well as Mrs. Wagner had known for a long time that death was hovering near and the end was not unexpected nor was it dreaded by the mother and good friends. A complication of diabetes and other ailments was the cause of the long illness and final death.

The funeral services will be held on Friday after noon at 2:30 o'clock at the residence, conducted by the Rev. G.N. Gage of Elk Point, the former pastor of the deceased. Interment will be made in the Dell Rapids cemetery.

Mrs. Wagner's maiden name was Laura Cornelia Cook. She was born at Mackinaw, Ill., on October 27, 1854, making her 69 years, 9 months and 3 days old at her death.

On December 5, 1870, she was united in marriage to Daniel Wagner. He preceded her in death, passing away in Dell Rapids on November 23, 1912.

Mr. and Mrs. Wagner lived in Illinois several years after their marriage, moving to Iowa in 1886. They moved to South Dakota abut twenty-five years ago, residing on farms west and north of town until in 1912, when they moved to Dell Rapids, not long before death claimed the husband and father.

Six children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Wagner, two of whom preceded the mother in death. The surviving children are Mrs. Lida Winkler of near Calgary, Canada; Lloyd Wagner of Sioux Falls; and Pearl Wegner and Mrs. Josie Stillwell of Dell Rapids.

Mrs. Wagner was a woman of very unusual character. For many years her husband and one son were invalids. The other children were too small to help with the work and for several years while on a farm in Iowa she did a man's work in the field, single handed, and also took care of the family. She never complained but worked cheerfully and hard and rarely seemed tired and never discouraged. She was a woman who thought the world of her family and they of her. Friends have rarely noted a family where mutual affection and care was strongly manifested as in the family. The welfare of the mother was the constant thought of all the children, and they did everything they possibly could for her. She repaid them with a strong and fast affection that was beautiful to see. Her passing will leave a great loneliness in their hearts.

Mrs. Wagner was a member of the Methodist church and of the Rebekah lodge. In her vigorous days she was an ardent church worker, but of late years had been obliged to give up active participation in her church's affairs. She had a very large circle of friends who with the children mourn the departure of a splendid woman.
