Helen E. (Eichler) Derian
Sioux Falls - Helen E. (Eichler) Derian, 85, of 1708 So. West Ave., Sioux Falls, died Wednesday, July 14, 2004, at Avera McKennan Hospital from complications from a fall. She was born April 3, 1919, in Columbia, S.D., to Albert and Caroline (Wilke) Eichler. Helen graduated from Aberdeen Central High School in 1937. She married Jack A. Derian on Nov. 26, 1954, in Aberdeen. She worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. and the Argus Leader for a number of years in Sioux Falls. Helen was a wonderful, loving, devoted mother and wife. She volunteered her time as co-president with her husband of the Jefferson School PTA and later became president of the City Council PTA. She was a member of Christ The King Church. Helen was a very active member of the Elmwood Ladies Golf Club since 1961. Blessed to have shared her life are her children, a son, Jeff of Mesa, Ariz.; a daughter, Karen Derian Gash (Job) of East Brunswick, N.J.; and two grandchildren, Kirsten and Jacob. Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Jack; a brother, Alfred Eichler; and sister, Elda Eichler. Visitation begins at 3 p.m. Monday at Miller Funeral Home in Sioux Falls with a scripture vigil and rosary at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass begins at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Christ The King Church with burial in St. Michael Cemetery.
