Alpha B. Haak
(August 15, 1912 - December 11, 2008)
Alpha B. Haak, 96, of Dell Rapids died on Thursday, December 11, 2008 at Terrace Manor Nursing Home in Dell Rapids. Her memorial service will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, December 15, 2008 at the Reformed Church in Dell Rapids. Inurnment will be at 1:00 p.m. on Monday at Logan Reformed Cemetery, rural Dell Rapids.
Alpha B. Flaten was born on August 15, 1912 at Hettinger, ND, the daughter of Gunerius and Ollie (Evans) Flaten. She grew up and attended school in Hettinger, ND. She moved with her family to Dell Rapids, SD where Alpha graduated from Dell Rapids High School in 1929. After high school, she attend teacher's school in Madison, SD. She taught in area rural schools until she was married. Alpha married Alven Haak on March 28, 1936 in Dell Rapids. The couple made their home on the Haak farm in the Logan Township. In 1975, the couple retired from farming and moved into town.
Alpha is preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers and a granddaughter.
Alpha enjoyed sewing, crafts and gardening. She was a member of the Reformed Church in Dell Rapids, Logan Extention Club and the Dell Rapids Garden Club.
Those left to cherish her memory are her three sons, Jerome (Betty) Haak and Roger Haak of Dell Rapids and David (Lee) Haak of Jeffersonville, NY; her two daughters, Joyce (Paul) Brooks and Diane (Phil) Wolfe of San Diego, CA; her 13 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter.
Memorials may be directed to the Alpha Haak Memorial Fund.
