Pierret, Peter and Anna
In a little town of Springbrook about 50 miles southeast of Dubuque, Iowa close to the Mississippi River, Anna was born to Peter Weimerskirch and Magdalena Gehlen on Feb 13, 1867. When she was 29, in Jan 18, 1896 she married Peter Pierret in Bellevue which is about 10miles northwest of there. Peter was born on May 11, 1860 to Frank Pierret and Mary Weber. He worked on the railroad around Bellevue. The following year on April 13, 1897, their first son, Frank Victor, was born. Two years later on Oct 24, 1899, Ralph Nicholas made his grand entry. How happy they must haven been on Easter Sunday in 1902 when their third child, Esther was born, but their joy ended when she died the same day. Two years later on March 20 they had a great surprise. Twins, Leo Clemence and Caroline Maggie noisily came into this world. The next year, Peter, wanted to farm, heard that his sister, Mary and husband Casper Endlein wanted to leave their farm which was about 5 miles northwest of Dell Rapids. He rode the train to check it out. Anna followed him soon after with her 4 children and baggage over 600 miles via rail to their new farm home. Paul Carl was born shortly thereafter on May 19. After 2 years, Endleins came back, so Pierrets moved to the Dan Cotter farm ½ mile east of Huntimer. They worked hard to make a living even though Peter had been ill at times. Then on July 23, 1909, Peter died leaving Anna with 5 children from 4 to 12 years of age. Peter was buried in the Huntimer cemetery. Anna and her children continued farming moving to different farms in the Huntimer, Chester and Dell Rapids area. She encountered many obstacles as the time they butchered a beef and some pigs and had them hanging from the windmill to cool. In the evening, they heard a noise and figured a thief was after their meat, so the oldest son, Victor, grabbed a shotgun and ran out and shot in the air. They barely saw a man running as he was running "Faster than a speeding bullet." An exciting event was when they bought a new Overland 90 car when the boys were in their teens. In the middle 20's, they moved 8 miles east of Dell Rapids. Victor married Dagny Johnson on May 4, 1927. Then Carried married Simon Ripperger on Sept 3, that same year. The other brothers worked for farmers for many years. The following year on Oct. 3, 1928 Ralph spoke vows with Nora Fiegen. Leo and Paul had been dating the Dubbeldee sisters, Martha and Mildred. They had a double ceremony on Nov 6, 1931, Leo marrying Martha and Paul, Mildred at Garretson. Anna continued living with her children's families until Sept. 21, 1936, 69 years of age, when she went to her heavenly home. She was buried in the Huntimer cemetery alongside her husband.
