Ernest G. LeBrun, 91, died Friday, September 6, 1996, at Covington Heights Health care Center in Sioux Falls.
Ernest was born to parents Louis and Mary LeBrun December 12, 1904, at Alton, Iowa. In 1915, he moved with his parents to the Dell Rapids area where he attended St. Mary's grade school.
Ernest married Ivona Willard November 23, 1943, in Dell Rapids. They lived in Dell Rapids and later moved to Chester. In 1956 they moved to a farm near Colton where he farmed. Ivona died at December 22, 1977. Ernest moved into Colton in 1987.
He was a member of Huntimer – St. Joseph the Workmen Catholic Church, in rural Colton. Ernest loved his farm and the John Deere tractors and equipment.
Grateful for having shared his wife are a son, Bill, and his wife, Carie, Colton; a daughter, Mary Lee Bennett, Honey Creek, Iowa; three sisters: Margaret Anderson of Sioux Falls, Marie Olsen and Edna Wall, both of Dell Rapids; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by four brothers: Jack, Hank, Ed and Sam; and two sisters, Johanna and Hilda.
Services were held Tuesday, September 10, 1996, at St. Joseph the Workmen Catholic Church, Colton, with father Thomas Ryan officiating. Virginia Huwe was organist and the Huntimer choir provided the music.
Honorary casket bearers were Leroy Benson, Dewey Van Zanten, Leonard Johnson, Rudy Benson, Kenny LeBrun, Russ Middlen and Marvin Foss. Casket bearers were Jim Willard, Andy Krier, Jim LeBrun, Glen Grinde, Lloyd Madison and Darrell Hough. Interment was at St. Joseph Cemetery, Colton, with Minnehaha funeral home in charge of arrangements.
