Funeral services were held on Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock in the Methodist church for Mrs. Caroline Walters, last Civil War veteran's widow in Dell Rapids, whose death occurred Thursday, January 8, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Shrimer, where she had been living the past nine months. The services were in charge of Rev. R.E. Regan, pastor of the local church.

Mrs. Walters was born in New Boston, Illinois, on September 17, 1852. After her marriage to Dennis Walters in Iowa, the couple located about seven miles west of Dell Rapids where Mr. Walters was postmaster and maintained a small store in connection with the office. This was in Burke Township during the territorial days, when transportation was by stagecoach.

Later they moved to their new home on the west outskirts of town, where Mrs. Walters made her home for 65 years. She was a charter member of Dahlgren unit of the Womans' Relief Corps and of Carolyn Rebekah Lodge. Her husband died in 1923.

Surviving is one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Walters, who resides here.

Interment took place in the Dell Rapids Cemetery.
