Eunice A. Monner
(October 18, 1918 - August 29, 2011)
Eunice A. Monner, 92, of Dell Rapids died on Monday, August 29, 2011 at Orchard Hills Assisted Living Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary Catholic Church in Dell Rapids at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 2, 2011. Visitation will begin at noon at Kahler Funeral Home on Thursday, September 1, 2011. The family will be present at 6:00 p.m. with the Christian Wake Service beginning at 7:00 p.m.
Eunice A. Wastun was born on October 18, 1918 at Colton, SD, to George and Lillie (Magness) Wastun. She attended Grinde Country School and Colton Schools. She graduated from Colton High School in 1936. She attended what was then the General Beadle College in Madison, SD and received her teachers certificate. She taught rural schools several years in Minnehaha and Moody counties. On August 15, 1942 Eunice married Thomas W. Monner at Columbus, OH at the Air Force Base Chapel. After the war, she helped with the farming operation several years while the children were small. She worked for several years part-time in a grocery store in Colton. The Monner family moved to Dell Rapids in 1962 and Eunice began working for Norwest Bank in Dell Rapids. She retired in 1982. Thomas died in September of 1991. Eunice continued to live in her home until 2003 when she moved to Orchard Hills Apartments.
Eunice was preceded in death by her parents, husband, her son, Charles; her son-in-law, Harold; her great granddaughter, Alie; her brother, Darwin and her sister, Gyneth.
Eunice was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and Altar Society group. She enjoyed gardening, stitchery, reading, bowling, walking, bible study class, and fishing.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Pam DeReu of Yorktown, IN and Mary (Mark) Moran of Lake Madison, SD; her daughter-in-law, Sonja Monner of Somerset, WI; her six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
