Harvey L. Ellefson
(May 10, 1921 - August 10, 2011)

Harvey Ellefson, 90, of Dell Rapids died on Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at the Veteran's Hospital in Sioux Falls. His funeral service will be held on Monday, August 15, 2011 in the Chapel of the Lutheran Church of Dell Rapids at 1:00 p.m. Visitation with the family present will be from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 14, 2011 at Kahler Funeral Home.

Harvey LeRoy Ellefson was born on May 10, 1921, the son of Halvor and Mable (Paulson) Ellefson. He grew up on the family farm. He farmed with his father until he entered into the US Army at Ft. Bregg, NC. He entered WWII in 1943. He fought in England, France, Germany, Belgium and Holland. After his discharge in 1945, he returned home. He married Mabel Christensen on June 25, 1947 at the Lutheran Church of Dell Rapids. He moved to the family farm and farmed until he went to work for Hollis Sikenson's station in 1958. Harvey bought the station in 1963. In 1979, Harvey sold the station. He then went to work for Minnehaha County Club, Dell Rapids True Value and the City of Dell Rapids. Poor health forced his retirement in 1991.

Harvey was 90 and preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother, Merle.

Harvey was a member of the Lutheran Church of Dell Rapids, where he was a deacon at the church, the Dell Rapids American Legion Post where he served as past commander, past commander of the firing squad, the financial officer and the athletic officer.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 64 years, Mabel; his son, Gary Ellefson (Cathy Frantzen) of Dell Rapids; his daughter, Cherlyn (Duane) Overvaag of Watertown; his grandchildren, Chad, Bryan, Kelli, Matt and Seth and his nine great-grandchildren and his sister, Alice Hansen of Dell Rapids.
