Velma M. Estenson, 79
Velma M. Estenson, Baltic, died on Monday, Dec. 22, 2003, at the Dells Area Health Center in Dell Rapids. She was 79.
Velma M. was born to William and Meta (Bahde) Voss on Jan. 14, 1924, near Toronto. She grew up near Toronto and attended county school near there.
She married Maurice Estenson on Dec. 14, 1941, in Clear Lake. They lived in Toronto until 1953, when they moved to Brookings. She worked at South Dakota State University until her retirement in 1986. The couple moved to Baltic and in 1989 they moved to Brewster, Minn. In 1993, she moved to Sioux Falls and lived there until moving to the Terrace Manor Nursing Home in Dell Rapids in September of 2000. Maurice died in March of 1975.
Grateful for having shared her life are her daughter, Barbara Lobdell, Baltic; a son, Steve Estenson, and his wife, Dawn, Elkton; six grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; a sister, Elaine, and her husband, Red Forseth, Baltic; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Richard “Dick” Lobdell, four brothers, Albert, Leonard, Gerald and Clarence; and a sister, Norma.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Dec. 27, 2003, at the Minnehaha Funeral Home in Dell Rapids, with the Rev. Mark Docken officiating. Interment was held at the Dell Rapids Cemetery.
Casket bearers included Eric Hanson, Chris Hanson, Heath Hanson, Josh Lobdell, Cody Lobdell and Jess Lobdell.
