Arthur W. Stengel died Sunday about noon as a result of injuries received when he was struck by a piece of rock after a blast had been fired at the east quarry. Mr. Stengle, Lou Meyers and Mr. Chesley had taken refuge under one of the cars used for hauling the broken rock to the crusher. The car was overturned and pieces of the rock hit the three men. Mr. Stengel was badly crushed about the head. He was hurried to the hospital where all possible was done for him, but he was too badly injured. He never regained consciousness. Mr. Stengel came here with this family in the spring, from Worthing, and started working in the east quarry when it was opened. He leaves a wife and two small children, the youngest being only about six weeks old. The body was taken to Worthing Tuesday for burial, the funeral being held Wednesday. Mr. Stengel was born July 19, 1898, and was 31 years, 11 months and 3 days old at his death.
