Having attained the age of 86 years, eight months, and 29 days, Ella Knowlton died Thursday morning, Dec. 12, 1996, at the Centennial Hospice Cottage in Sioux Falls, SD, following a short illness. Ella Knowlton was born on a farm in Lincoln County, SD, on Mar. 13, 1910. She was raised by her grandparents, Weert and Lukentje Moerke. She attended Lennox public school and grew up here. On Sep. 8, 1930, she was united in marriage to Daryl A. Knowlton at Brandon, SD. They lived in Lennox their entire married life. Mrs. Knowlton had been a bookkeeper for Cammack Chevrolet, and then she and her husband owned and operated Daryl's I.G.A. Store from 1957 until they retired in 1968. He preceded her in death on Apr. 7, 1985, ending a marriage of nearly 55 years. Grateful for having shared her life are her daughter and son-in-law: Joan and Richard A. Wilson of Lennox; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
