Dennis P. Mines, age 62, of Yankton, South Dakota died Thursday, October 18, 2007 at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton after a brief illness.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, October 22, 2007 at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Yankton with Reverend Ken Bain officiating. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Yankton. Visitation is from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m., on Sunday, at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton with a rosary at 3:00 PM and 7:00 p.m., followed by a Scripture service and video tribute at 7:30 p.m.

Pallbearers are Marvin Steffen, Marlin VanSlyke, Marv Hochstein, Ed Kleinschmidt, Terry Pinkelman, Jerry Uhing, and Allen Wieseler.

Dennis was born on April 12, 1945 in Yankton to Bernard J. and Edelwalda A. (Rolfes) Mines. He grew up on a farm west of Bow Valley and graduated from Holy Trinity High School in 1963. He attended Northeast Community College in Norfolk and graduated from Wayne State College in 1969. He married Shirley Hegge on August 26, 1967 in Constance, NE. In 1969 they moved to Omaha where he was a cost accountant for Western Electric. They moved to Crofton in 1974 where he owned and operated Mines Amusement Co. In 1994 his son Scott joined the business. From 1996 to 2003 he owned the Crofton Elevator. They moved to Yankton in 2005 where Dennis worked as a real estate agent for Lewis and Clark Realty and was presently employed at Walmart.

He was a member of the St. Benedict's Catholic Church and was an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist. He was a former member of the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Crofton and was a former EMT and Volunteer Fireman for Crofton. He was a former secretary/treasurer for the Lewis and Clark Realtors. He enjoyed boating, fishing, jet skiing, and 4 wheeling. His pride and joy was his 1955 T-Bird. He also collected toy John Deere tractors. Dennis was devoted to his parents and loved being and working at the farm. He had a great sense of humor and was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather and taught his children the values of hard work and being honest.

Dennis is survived by his wife, Shirley of Yankton, a son, Scott Mines and his wife Rhonda of Yankton, a daughter, Jodi Ogstad and her husband Chad of Yankton, 6 granddaughters, Ashley and Alyssa Ogstad, Maddie, Haley, Holly, and Ivy Mines all of Yankton, 4 brothers, Bob Mines of Crofton, Martin Mines of Los Angeles, CA, Don and Rusty Mines of Seattle, WA, John "Packy" and Mavis Mines of Hartington, 4 sisters, Rose Haas of Omaha, Rita and Rao Bopppana, of Los Angeles, CA, Muriel and Ed Krone of Sioux City, Iowa, Jackie Mines of Minneapolis, MN, a brother in law, Marvin and Alice Hegge of Niobrara, NE, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers-in-law, Dennis and Kenny Hegge, and a sister-in-law, Janice Wortmann.
