Charlotte Edna Reaves
August 19, 1925 - April 17, 2011
Charlotte Edna Reaves passed away April 17, 2011 at Dow Rummel Village in Sioux Falls, South Dakota at the age of 85.
Charlotte was born August 19, 1925 in Sioux Falls. She was the daughter of Charles Everett Iseman and Edna Beatrice (Billings) Iseman. Char grew up in Sioux Falls, graduated from Washington Senior High School where she was Homecoming Queen, and attended Iowa State University and Augustana College.
Charlotte married Lloyd L. Reaves March 26, 1945 in Sioux Falls where they settled to raise three children and where Char was an active community member. Char was a life-long member of the First Presbyterian Church serving in the Circle, serving as the financial secretary of the church Women’s Association and as an Elder for six years. She was a board member of the YWCA and the chair of its Camp Committee. She was a past president of Chapter B.D. PEO, served on the board of the United Way, actively participated in PTA, was a Cub Scout den mother and a driver for Meals on Wheels.
Char's hobbies included bridge, mahjong and knitting and being the family photographer and historian. She was an avid NCAA basketball, NFL, and Twins fan. Char loved children and usually had a house full of the neighbor children. Her grandchildren were especially important to her.
Char will be remembered for her selflessness and her kindness and generosity.
Charlotte is survived by her husband, Lloyd; children, Doug (Patty King) of Fairfax, Vermont; Pamela (Catherine Lee) of San Rafael, California; Tom (Kris Carmody) of Sioux Falls; grandchildren Lindsay Stern and Suzannah Reaves of Sioux Falls and Elizabeth Reaves and Silas Reaves of Vermont; and sister Myrtle Alice Howard (Paul) of McMinnville, Oregon.
Char has been lovingly and devotedly cared for by Lloyd. She has had many faithful visitors, but special thanks to Roger Fredrikson, Gordie Fosness, and Naomi Reaves for their dedication to her.
Our sincerest gratitude goes to the caring staff at the Dow Rummel nursing home and to Dr. Eric Larson who gave both Char and Lloyd and her family compassionate assistance the past few years.
There will be a private family burial at the cemetery. A funeral service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Sioux Falls on Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at 11:00 am. A luncheon will follow the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the YWCA, Attn: Katherine, 300 W. 11th St., Sioux Falls, SD 57104.
