Helen Geneva Aaby Larsen
Birth 5 Jun 1913
Death 26 Jun 2011 (aged 98)
Helen Geneva (Aaby) Larsen, 98, formerly of Sioux Falls, died June 26, 2011 in Mesquite, NV.
Helen was born June 5, 1913 in the Carpenter, SD post office. The family eventually moved to Watertown, where Helen attended high school. While attending Augustana College in Sioux Falls, she met J. David Larsen, a rakishly handsome, extremely poor preachers son with an amazing voice. They fell in love and married.
J. David became a Lutheran Minister and in those days, she assumed the job of Assistant Minister. Her duties included teaching Sunday school, leading the Ladies Aid, singing in the choir, playing the piano or organ, teaching Bethel Series, organizing vacation Bible school, and praying for her husband. They served churches in South Dakota, Minnesota, and Montana. While living in Red Lodge, MT she opened a Norwegian gift shop called the Peer Gynt Suite. They returned to Sioux Falls and in 1993, J. David died. Helen was a member of First Lutheran Church. She eventually moved into Waterford at All Saints, where she studied Elizabeth Barrett Browning, quilted, embroidered, painted, and developed the library. In 2007, she moved to Washington briefly before settling in Mesquite, NV where her daughter lives. She resided at Highland Manor where she enjoyed Bingo and the Get Smart with Art Program.
Helen had a long term relationship with God and his Son, Jesus. She told many of us that she was looking forward to going to heaven. There was no fear in the thought, only anticipation.
Memorials may be sent to a charity of your choice or Virgin Valley Hospice, 315 Calais Drive, Mesquite, NV 89027 or Beartooth Hospice, P. O. Box 590, Red Lodge, MT 59068.
Interment of Helens urn will be at a later date at Hills of Rest Memorial Park in Sioux Falls. George Boom Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements
