Arthur 1909 - 1987
Loeda 1914 - 2003

Arthur Rodway and Loeda Sogn were married Sept. 1, 1937, at Lands Lutheran Church. In March of the following year they moved to their farm, the southeast quarter of Sec¬tion 19, Highland Township, which they purchased from Grace Johnson. Art and Loeda are lifelong residents of Lincoln County, excepting the time they were in college, as well as their parents and grandparents before them. Art and Loeda both have a Norwegian heritage as both sets of grandparents emigrated from Norway. Evidence is still visible of the tree claim planted by Art's grandfather (a few huge Cottonwood trees remain standing like sentinels in the pasture). Loeda grew up on a farm her grandparents had homesteaded. Art attended South Dakota State for three and one-half years; then the depression hit and he came home to help on the farm. Loeda took her teacher's training at Augustana and taught six years in the Lincoln County schools. It was while she taught at Highland #24, that she and Art started dating, culminating in marriage in 1937. Art has been in the custom harvesting bus~ness and has gone "South" for over 30 years, having established customers in Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, and western South Dakota. Art and Loeda have four children, LeAnn Irons, a registered nurse; Loren, a lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Air Force, married to Carolyn Wittrig; Lynn Rodway, an Inhala¬tion Therapist, but working his dad's farm, is married to Charlotte Knutson; Arlo, of Whitehall, Mont., married to Merna Webster. LeAnn's children are Susan and Jeannie Irons, Loren's are Michael and Tara, Lynn's are Anjeanette and Andrea, and Arlo's are Cale and Grant. Art and Loeda are lifelong members of the Moe Parish churches, Art at Romsdal, and after marriage Loeda trans¬ferred from Lands Church to Romsdal. Loeda has served as Sunday School teacher and is an active member of the ALCW. (Source: The History of Lincoln County, SD 1985, page 637)
