John Henry Jones was born on Sept. 24, 1929, at his parents' home in Fairview, where he lived until the age of seven when his parents moved to Canton. His parents were Clifton and Emma (Wiebersieck) Jones. In 1938 his parents purchased their home on 615 W. 5th in Canton. John attended grade school and high school in Canton and in 1946 joined the Army, which he served in for 16 years. After the service he painted water towers on the East Coast, working in Fremont, Ohio. He also was a bartender in the Canton Municipal Liquor store until his marriage to Gail (Bovill) Ball. They make their home at 603 S. Cedar, Can¬ton, where Gail and her three children had made their home. John worked at the school bus garage in Canton and later relocated in Sioux Falls and worked for School Bus, Inc. as shop foreman, where he is presently employed. Gail Bovill-Ball married John Jones on Aug. 16, 1971 and continues living in Canton. She is an active member of the Sioux Falls Sweet Adelines (a barbershop women's group) and also a member of the Bowling Association in Canton. She served as President of the Republican Women's Club of Lincoln County and is a member of the Romsdal Lutheran Church. (Source: The History of Lincoln County, SD, 1985. page 494)
