Gilbert T. Gubbrud was born in 1854 to parents Torger and Kari Mikkelson at Gran in Hadeland, Norway. In 1876, at the age of 22 years he immigrated to America, coming to Canton, Dakota Territory. He farmed with his brothers Peter and Eric in Norway Township until in 1893 when he purchased a farm in Lincoln Township, seven miles north and two east of Beresford.
Gina Thorstensen was born in 1867 to Marie and Torsten Thorstensen at Sand in Nord Odal, Norway. She came to America in 1900 to her sister, Mrs. Marius Nelson. In 1905 Gilbert and Gina were married at the Gubbrud home. They are members of Romsdal Lutheran Church. Mr. Gubbrud passed away in 1932 and Mrs. Gubbrud passed away in 1949. They had a family of three; Mae, who married Raymond Rime, passed away in 1949. Mr. Rime passed away in 1982. Clara married Merle Rasmussen and lives in Beresford. Gilman married Gladys Lenning and they live on the Gubbrud home place.
