1870 - 1944
Edwin Alness, the first of the eight children born to Iver and Berit, was born in 1870 in the first sod shanty. His mother had to go out to milk their cow only a few hours after the baby was born. Milking a cow was not a duty for a man in Norway. Edwin lived most of his life in this community but never married. He was an avid reader and loved history. He recorded much of the early history of the commuity, both church and school. This has been an important source of information for many. His farm is two miles north of Romsdal Church. Edwin died in 1944. (Source: The History of Lincoln Co, SD 1985, page 249-250)
