Leo David McCormick was born in Iona, Minnesota on Feb. 11, 1927, the son of David and Anna (Weyker) McCormick. He served in the US Navy during World War 11. On Feb. 21, 1952 Leo was united in marriage to Alice Ruppert at Currie, MN. Together the couple traveled extensively during his early years of employment with Stake Construction Company, until settling in Lennox, South Dakota in 1965. He retired in 1985. His wife died Jan. 6, 2001, ending a marriage of nearly 49 years. Leo was a member of Saint Magdalen's Catholic Church and Brethorst-Burma American Legion Post 4174. He loved woodworking, fishing, gardening and traveling. Having been in declining health, Leo died suddenly, shortly after arrival at Sanford Health in Sioux Falls on Tuesday evening, Mar. 11, 2008. Grateful for having shared his life are his seven children: Kay O'Neil and her husband, John, of Carson City, NV, Mike McCormick and his wife, Marjean, of Sioux Falls, Gloria Poppens and her husband, Lloyd, of Chancellor, Barb Sheer and friend, Steve Miller, of Burnsville, NM, Greg McCormick and his wife, Sue, of Rapid City, Brenda Plimpton and her husband, Tim, of Hills, MN and Lee McCormick and his wife, Kibbi, of Sioux Falls; 14 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, other relatives and friends.
