Sylvia Karen Andal was born on a farm near Canistota, SD on Jan. 1, 1921, the daughter of Alfred and Inga (Osthus) Andal. At age one and a half she moved with parents to Hooker, SD. She attended grade school at Hooker and graduated from Viborg High School in 1939. Sylvia was united in marriage to Richard Gors, Sr. on May 31, 1939 at Hooker. They lived at Parker, SD for three years and at various farms in the Viborg area. Sylvia worked in Viborg for 15 years and was employed at the State Hospital in Yankton for 16 years. She retired in 1983 and lived in Hooker until Richard died in 1993. She then moved to Tea, SD and lived there for 12 years. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and a member of the Women's Bible Study. Sylvia enjoyed her family. She also enjoyed making quilts, afghans, pot holders, embroidered towels and loved to work. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her step-mother, two brothers and one sister. Grateful for having shared her life are her children, son, Richard Gors, Jr. and his wife Alma of Tea, SD, daughter, Barbara Jacobson and her husband Larry of Tea, SD, daughter, Karen Danielsen and her husband Gene of Salem, SD; eight grandchildren and their spouses: Annette (Dale) Geiken, Sandra (Keith) Bossman, Sharon (Mark) McConnell, Julie (Justin) Hinker, Duane (Karla) Gors, Steven (Liz) Gors, Jeff (Stephanie) Danielsen, Jeremy (Crystal) Jacobson; twenty great-grandchildren; one brother, Verdell Andal and his wife Loreen and one sister, Mary Ann Nelson and her husband Warren and a host of other relatives and friends.
