Parents of Lyle, Paul, John
Clifford Obel Eidsness died May 29, 2009, at the age of 94 years 2 months and 1 day. He was born March 28, 1915, to Ludvig and Mathilde (Ulrickson) Eidsness on a farm in Lincoln County, Norway Township, South Dakota. A true son of South Dakota farm soil, Cliff resided on the farm he was born on for 91 years before spending his last 3 years at Bethesda Nursing Home, Beresford. Clifford attended Lincoln County Moe School District 22 and graduated from Augustana Academy in Canton in 1934. While a student at the Academy he met the love of his life, Thelma Akland. Delayed by the depression, they married on May 25, 1940, and were married for 51 years before Thelma's death in 1991. Cliff and Thelma were the parents of three sons. Cliff was a lifelong member of Lands Lutheran Church, rural Hudson, SD. His church and his Christian faith were extremely important in his life. Bible reading and devotions were part of his daily routine to the end of his life. Cliff served on a variety of church, township and county boards, but his main passion and joy in life centered around his love of family, sports, and simply visiting with people - friends and strangers alike. Cliff spent over 50 years attending games where his sons and grandchildren were either playing or coaching. Grateful for having shared his life are sons: Lyle (Jean), Paul (Darlene) of Sioux Falls, and John (Denise) of Pelican Rapids, MN; seven grandchildren: Eric, Mark, Rick, Scott, Jay and Will Eidsness and Christy Sorby; nineteen great grandchildren; sister Esther Yates, Seattle, WA; and 27 nieces and nephews. Cliff was preceded in death by his wife Thelma, his parents, sisters Thelma and Lillian Eidsness and a great-granddaughter Audrey Rose Eidsness. Services will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, June 2, at Lands Lutheran Church, rural Hudson with interment to follow in the church cemetery.
