Evelyn R. Schwemle
(May 6, 1907 - October 6, 2008)

Evelyn Nelson was born on May 6, 1907 on a farm near Baltic, SD, the daughter of Waldemar and Helga Nelson. She attended country grade school and graduated from Baltic High School. She attended Augustana and taught school a few years in Brookings and Minnehaha Counties.

She married Ludwig Schwemle on March 4, 1944 in Dell Rapids. They lived on an acreage southwest of Dell Rapids until 1981 when they moved into Dell Rapids. Mr. Schwemle died on August 12, 1985.

Evelyn was a member of the Lutheran Church of Dell Rapids and very active in Women of ELCA.

Evelyn passed away on Monday, October 6, 2008 at Terrace Manor Nursing Home in Dell Rapids. She was 101 and preceded in death by her five brothers and two sisters.

Those left to cherish her memory are her brother, Vernor (Rose) Nelson of Madison, SD; her sisters, Marie Nelson of Sioux Falls, Grace (Derwood) Bessler of Sarasota, FL ; her sister-in-law, Marion Nelson of Lake Preston; her brother-in-law, George Swann Sr. of Sioux Falls, and many nieces and nephews.

Her funeral service will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 9, 2008 at the Lutheran Church of Dell Rapids. Interment will be in the Stordahl Cemetery, Dell Rapids. Visitation will begin two hours prior to the start of the service.
