Mrs. J.R.(Iva Grace Bascom)Gellatly, a resident of Dell Rapids for more than forty years passed away Tuesday at the Amundson Nursing Home, following an illness of four years. Funeral services will be held from the Methodist Church Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock, with the pastor, Rev. R. O. Moberly officiating.
Mrs. Gellatly was born in Missouri in 1880. The family later moved to Peterson, Iowa, where she was united in marriage to J.R. Gellatly September 19th, 1900. They moved to Dell Rapids in 1912 where the family has since resided. Mr. Gellatly was manager of the local grain company here for many years. Mr. and Mrs. Gellatly celebrated their golden wedding anniversary Sept. 19, 1950.
She was the mother of four children, a son, John Robert dying in infancy. Her husband John Robert, one son and two daughters survive: Max of Sioux Falls, Mrs. Julius Jacobson, also of Sioux Falls and Mrs. Ralph Forsythe of Riverton, Wyoming, also three grandchildren.
Mrs. Gellatly was interested in many civic affairs as long as her health would permit. She was an active member of the Methodist church, the Dell Rapids Garden Club, the Women's Relief Corps, and other civic and social groups.
Edit: Iva Grace was the grandmother of John Allen Forsythe, and great-grandmother of Lisa (Forsythe)Martin.
