Mrs. E. T. Cool Pioneer, Passes On

Mrs. E.T. Cook, pioneer of this vicinity since 1876, died Monday at her home. About three weeks ago Mrs. Cook fell and since that time had suffered from the injuries.

Mrs. Cook was born in Genesee County, New York, January 1, 1844, and moved with her parents to Mantorville, Minnesota, in 1856. Here she married Eldon T. Cook in 1856. They had nine children, three of home preceded her in death. Mr. Cook died in 1930.

Mr. and Mrs. Cook moved from Minnesota to Dakota territory in 1876, he having filed a year previously on a Homestead and Lynn Township, Moody County, 7 miles north of here. They remained there until 1892, when they moved to Sioux Falls on account of Mr. Cook's appointment as a guard at the penitentiary. They moved to Flandreau in 1917, where they resided until the fall of 1923, when they moved to Dell Rapids.

Mr. and Mrs. Cook celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1916 while in Sioux Falls, and their 60th anniversary at the home of the daughter here.

Mr. Cook, until her recent fall had enjoyed good health and was very active. She was a friend to all who knew her.

Surviving are three sons, Claude of Dell Rapids, A.J. of of Flandreau, and William N. of Sioux Falls, and three daughters, Mrs. Ada Munk of Dell Rapids, Mrs. Iva Hart of Madison and Elizabeth of Sioux Falls. She is also survived by twin sisters, Mrs. Emma Smith of Kasson, Minnesota, and Mrs. Ella Ellis of Marshalltown, Iowa.

Funeral services were held at the residence on Wednesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. George O. long, pastor of the Presbyterian Church.

Six grandchildren acted as pallbearers. Interment took place beside her husband in the local cemetery.
