Terrence L. Jorgensen
April 5, 1939 – January 18, 2024
Terrence L. Jorgensen, age 84, of Sioux Falls, SD, passed away on Thursday, January 18, 2024, at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls.
Terry was born on April 5, 1939, in Detroit, Michigan, to Elmer and Fern (McNamara) Jorgensen. He grew up in Dell Rapids, SD, and graduated from Dell Rapids High School in 1957. On August 13, 1957, Terry was united in marriage to Patricia "Pat" Jandl. Together they had four daughters.
Terry earned his nursing certificate from Presentation School of Nursing in Aberdeen, SD. He received a degree in Anesthesia from Sacred Heart School of Anesthesia in Yankton, SD. Terry worked as a registered nurse/nurse anesthetist at Sioux Valley Hospital (Sanford Health) and several other medical facilities before his retirement in 2004. Terry endured several health challenges throughout his life and received a heart transplant at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, in July of 2006.
He enjoyed collecting and building clocks, woodcarving, fishing, camping, and traveling. He was an avid sports fan and a lifelong fan of the Detroit Lions. He also cheered on the Detroit Tigers, Michigan Wolverines, and many local sports teams. However, spending time with his family was his greatest passion.
Terry is survived by his wife of 66 years, Patricia Jorgensen of Sioux Falls, and his daughters, Connie (Ben Greenberg) Jorgensen of Charlottesville, VA, Shelly (John) Buhr of Sioux Falls, Renee (Jeff) Hurley of Sioux Falls, and Linda (Rich) Avery of Mission, Texas. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Fern Jorgensen, and his brother, Roger Jorgensen.
A visitation with family present to greet friends will be held on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, from 5:00-7:00 PM, with a wake service beginning at 6:30 PM, at Miller Southside Chapel, 7400 S. Minnesota Ave. in Sioux Falls, SD 57108.
The Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at 10:30 AM at Holy Spirit Church, 3601 E. Dudley Lane in Sioux Falls, SD 57103. The interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Sioux Falls, SD.
